Role of women Parliamentarian in legislation in Pakistan during 2002- 2012

Abstract

This essay explores the impactful role played by women lawmakers in Pakistan during the transformative years from 2002 to 2012. It is a period marked by significant societal changes, prompting discussions on how these women contributed to enhancing women's rights and gender equality. The study meticulously examines the actions taken by these women and the challenges they encountered. Notably, they succeeded in passing crucial laws, such as the Women Protection Bill in 2006, a landmark achievement for women's rights. However, this progress was not without obstacles, particularly from traditional and religious factions opposed to these changes. The essay sheds light on the complex experiences of women in politics during this era, where they faced both positive and challenging aspects. Despite the difficulties, women in Pakistan's parliament have made strides, indicating a positive trajectory for future advancements in favour of women.
