Abstract

The Barelvi Ulama played a proactive role in the Pakistan Movement and continued their engagement post the country's creation. Their focus shifted towards reminding higher authorities and key stakeholders of the need to shape the constitution. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) orchestrated nationwide meetings and processions advocating for the official categorization of Qadianis as non-Muslims in the Pakistani constitution. The leadership of JUP actively engaged in parliamentary proceedings, notably opposing Ahmadis and the Lahori Group, advocating for their recognition as a minority (non-Muslim) in the National Assembly. In addition to their stance on the religious status of Qadianis, the JUP fervently called for the implementation of Islamic jurisprudence through a constitution grounded in Islamic principles. The leadership's instrumental role in the constitutional amendment that declared Ahmadis as non-Muslims underscores the significance of their contribution. This article meticulously examines various narratives associated with these historical events, offering a thoughtful and inquisitive exploration of the subject matter.
